… At the Window.
The Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC) is a coalition of major U.S. manufacturers, importers and retailers of window coverings dedicated to educating consumers about window cords safety. The Council also assists and supports its members in the industry’s ongoing efforts to encourage the use of cordless products in homes with young children, its redesign of corded products and to support the national ANSI/WCMA standard for corded window coverings. WCSC’s activities in no way constitute an assumption of any legal duty owed by its members or any other entity.
A Safer Home for Them… Peace of Mind for You
Child Safety and Window Fashions…
We take home safety seriously – and you should too, especially if you have small children and pets around the house. Basic household items, including window coverings, can turn into potential hazards.
Our window fashions are designed with safety in mind – and they’re a beautiful addition to your home’s décor. Choose from an abundant array of fabrics and colors that complement current trends, yet are versatile enough to carry a child’s room from nursery to toddler to teen.
Ask us about window fashions that come with safety features that help ensure everyone in your home remains safe from loose cords – including cordless operating systems, wand controls, motorization options and more.
Child Proof Blinds and Shades
Lucinda’s Interiors offers the best child safe blinds and window treatment options available. Choose from cordless easy-lift, remote control cordless shades, and wand controlled cordless. There are no true “child proof blinds”, but making safer choices in the operating style of your blinds can make your home safer and much less risky for young children and pets.
In addition to child safe blind operation you should also keep these safety guidelines in mind:
- Keep cords and chains far out of reach of children, this includes the operating cords running in-between the slats which young children can pull out.
- Never tie, loop, or knot window blind cords together, no cords at all is best.
- Make sure window blinds and window shades are properly and securely installed.
- Do not allow young children or pets to play with or chew on window treatments.
- Move furniture and toys that children could climb up on, away from windows.
- Do not place cribs, playpens, or children’s beds near windows where they can easily reach and pull on window treatments.
- Check with your child’s caregiver to ensure their window coverings are child safe.
Having Child Safe Blinds Is Not As Simple As Buying A Retrofit Kit
If you have older blinds and shades you need to strongly consider their replacement, the window covering safety council strongly urges parents, grandparents, and caregivers to use only completely cordless window treatments in homes where young children and pets are present. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, window coverings with cords are among the top five hidden dangers in homes and day care centers. A window covering is safest for children when there are no accessible cords on the front or back of the window covering.
You Could Save A Precious Life By Choosing Cordless Blinds
The simple and terrible truth is… cords kill kids. It is not a pleasant subject, but every year young children are killed or seriously injured by getting tangled in window cords when parents and caregivers thought they were perfectly safe in a playpen, crib, or playroom. The dangers are the same for pets, and let’s face it, they are also loved and precious members of the family. The team members at Lucinda’s Interiors want to make it a point to strongly encourage you to replace all corded blinds with cordless blinds in areas where children or pets sleep and play, even if you do not choose to shop blinds with us.
